What are Skin Growths?

Skin growths are clusters of cells that differ normal skin. They can vary in size, shape, color, and texture, appearing either raised or flat, and range from brown or black to flesh-colored red. They may be present at birth or develop with age. Here are some common types of skin growths.

Warts

Warts are rough, raised bumps on the skin caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV). They can appear in any area of the body and are contagious.

Skin Tags

Skin tags are small, soft growths that are often flesh-coloured and hang from the skin. They typically form in areas where skin rubs together or against clothing, such as the neck, armpits, under the breasts, or in the groin.

Moles

Moles are small spots that can be dark brown or black, resulting from clusters of pigment cells (melanocytes). While most moles are harmless, some have the potential to develop into melanoma, a type of skin.

Seborrheic Keratoses

Seborrheic keratos are non-cancerous growths that appear as waxy, raised patches on the skin, which may be pigmented. They are most commonly seen in older adults and can occur anywhere on the body.
